PLANNING AND PRODUCTIVITY
Value Stream Mapping

A Value Stream Map identifies the sequence
and movement
of information, materials, and actions in the Value Stream.
The "Value Stream" defines all of the
activities your company must perform to design, order, produce
and deliver its products and/or services. A Value Stream Map is
a Lean
Manufacturing technique that uses simple graphics to
show the sequence and movement of information, materials, and
actions in your company’s Value Stream. The Value Stream
Map helps employees at all levels of your organization clearly
see and understand how the separate parts of the company’s
value stream combine to create products and/or services. Value
Stream Mapping allows everyone to fully understand and agree on
how value is produced and where waste occurs. The development
of "Current State" and "Future State" Value
Stream maps should be the first step your company takes in creating
an overall lean-initiative plan. A lean initiative program begins
with agreement among employees at all levels of the company on
the current state of your organization and a commitment to the
desired "Future State".
Advent Design uses Value Stream Mapping as an
effective tool in working with our clients in the development
or transition to a Lean Manufacturing organization.
